JinHome - A New Way to Gift and Support Prospects While Still Living at Home

As a community manager you may have scratched your head a few times wondering, what can I order or create as a give-away post tour to make my community stand out and really meet a need or desire for the older adult? The intent is to absolutely find a way to show that we care and enjoyed meeting you and your family today. Unfortunately, the options that are affordable and individualized are limited. Our best intentions can end up falling short despite best efforts.

What does that mean? Water bottles, coffee mugs, gift baskets, journals and high end marketing folders filled with valuable and important community information are often where we land. This is not a bad thing, but can we think a bit differently to give people a gift that is centered around well-being and sustained independence? You may be thinking, heck yeah, that sounds awesome, but what is it? What does that look like?

What if you could change the narrative and the story as we know it? Rethink or add another item to post tour takeaways? Most people that come to tour a community are inundated with calls and follow-up emails. We inherently want to speed up the process to get them into the community where services and programs will enhance well-being. When there is an opportunity to participate in healthy behaviors in a communal setting we often see better participation and compliance, so of course we want to shorten the decision making time to see aging adults come live with us and start thriving sooner.

We know the transition from home to community can be overwhelming, and leaving your home is often met with opposition and doubt. Would it be a bad tactic to tell someone that we actually want you to stay in your home until you feel it is the right time for YOU to move, not US telling you we think it is the right time without knowing any historical details?

What helps people stay in their home longer? Tools and resources to stay upright, physically strong, and mentally engaged. Functional independence is directly tied to strength, balance, mobility and exercise. JinHome by Jintronix is exactly that gift of continued independence you can give someone for less than the money you spend on yet another water bottle or promotional item.

But what if they never move in? Perhaps, but what if they come to you 3 - 6 months later in a better physical state, stronger lower body strength and improved balance, all from an evidenced-based program that prevents falls and improved balance, that they may have actually enjoyed. Which version of this prospect would you rather move in to thrive in your community?

If we want to uphold the distinction between active adult, independent living, assisted living and overall levels of care, we have to be honest with what type of prospect is a good fit for the offerings and assistance, or lack of assistance (think staff models) that your community offers. Providing someone with an app based tool that they can use at home to remain the strongest and most functional version of themselves is not a normal approach or sales philosophy. But what if that is just what people are looking for? Why not consider an impactful resource that supports someone’s strength and balance as opposed to embarking on the convincing plan that they must move immediately?

And what if they never move in with you? Do you feel better as a provider and patron to deliver the best offerings to older adults by gifting a water bottle or coffee cup compared to a program for strength and balance? The money will be spent regardless, but what is the return on impact?

What will that tour or family say about your community or brand?

“Well, I didn’t move in there, but at least I received something for my time that was personal and thoughtful, not just another promotional item that sits next to the collection from those 2 months I toured the local retirement communities.” Your brand ambassadors go far beyond those that are directly linked to your community. Word of mouth is still king in this market for future residents, adult children, and other providers of aging services.

JinHome is a Therapeutic Exercise for the Modern & Free-Spirited Older Adult. JinHome is an experiential strength and balance exercise program. This downloadable app for laptop and iPad combines cutting-edge motion-sensing with stylish video-games that take you traveling around the world.

From the comfort of their own space, an individual can use JinHome to ski the Italian alps, rock climb in Thailand, and cycle the Tour de France, all while performing evidence-based and personalized balance exercises. Why not consider this unique take-away gift that supports overall well-being and offers up challenging movement programs around the world? You may just change the way senior living is perceived and embraced!

Who will be the first Sales or Marketing Director in senior living to go against the norm and think about strength and independence as a gift? Are you willing to try something different just once, and trade in your next promotional item order for a new approach? Does an older adult place value on this type of offering more than an inanimate object? We will not know until we try, but something tells us it may be a nice turn of the tide to our traditional senior living sales efforts.
